“Neel : Krishna Through Art” by Vineeta & Arvind Kanoria. Published by AdiDev Press. A captivating book that introduces the story of the beloved god through artworks in various styles by Indian artists.

The life and adventures of the beloved god Krishna come alive in this book through the works of Indian artists. Krishna has been depicted in many different ways in artworks in different regions of India across ages. The stunning artworks showcase important scenes and episodes from Krishna’s life. Portrayed using different mediums with attention to details, the artworks narrate stories in a stunning manner. Read the book to savour a journey through art and storytelling.

The book proved to be a visual treat. Presenting the story of Lord Krishna through beautiful classical, folk and modern artworks is a unique idea and has been executed extremely beautifully in this book. I and my eleven year old son found the artworks and the accompanying narrative quite fascinating. We read the book this week just in time for Janmashtami (Krishna’s birthday) which is one of our favourite festivals. The book made us appreciate how art has depicted Krishna in different ways. It serves as an ideal tribute to how artwork is a medium to tell stories. Overall a lovely addition to bookshelves for inculcating an appreciation of art.

Recommended Age

The book is apt for a wide range of age groups including readers young and old.
