A colourful, sturdy board book is an essential for new parents to not just engage their baby during feeding and playtime, but also goes a long way in helping the baby learn and comprehend language and sounds. Reading a board book aloud to your baby and taking time for this interaction helps in bonding as well. I’m sure parenting sites and books will extol the virtues of board books a lot better than I can, but I am here to talk to you about Ingey Angey, Adidev Press’ latest book that has won over my heart.
Ingey Angey, Here and There, a Splash of Tamil Everywhere, is a book filled with gorgeous watercolour and gouache illustrations of adorable animals doing amazing things. The text has smatterings of Tamil words with their English meanings written above them. These Tamil words are strung into rhyming verses that are easy to learn and oh, so cute to repeat!
Find a family of monkeys sipping coconut water, a Bear couple all dressed up, a cow and her calf enjoying a field full of flowers, and so many more! The colours of the illustrations are soft, muted, and gentle on the baby’s eyes. The text is rhythmic and fun to say, even when you read it a hundred times over. The author adds Tamil words used in everyday life and allows the parent to sound these out to the baby. I think this book is lovely, even for those parents who don’t understand Tamil. The book by itself is so gorgeous that you can choose to focus on the English words if you want to give the Tamil words a skip. But with words like Neela Kombu and Pattampoochi, why would you want to? I also love how sturdy this book is. As a mom of two boys who spent hours with board books, I know and understand how important it is for board books to be sturdy and strong enough to endure everything a teeny baby can put it through!
Adidev Press makes amazing board books for little readers, and this one is another smash hit. This makes a lovely baby shower gift or add it to your gift hamper for a newborn baby. I am sure this would make a wonderful gift, ensuring hours of lovely bonding time for mom and baby.
